Movies I watched in 2019

Hello, all you movie fans!

Long time, no see! I know that I have posted now for three days in a row, but it's tradition here at Movies Meet Their Match that at the start of the new year I list all of the books I read and the movies I watched! Now, this post is going to be huge, so apologies for that.

Here is my 2016 list, 2017 list, and 2018 list.

Clarifications:
Ones with a ~ means I saw it in a theater.
Ones with an asterisk (*) means I saw it more than once.
If I have reviewed it I will put the link to my review.
To be on this list I must have seen more than half of it, the ending, and cannot have missed more than half an hour of it.
There are not any rewatches on here because I rewatch way too many movies to count.

Movies:

The Avengers (2012)
Monkey Business (1952)
The Cowboy and the Lady (1938)
Driving Miss Daisy (1989)
(Here I had my wisdom teeth pulled and did nothing except watch movies for a few days.)
The LEGO Batman Movie (2017)
Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017)
A Winter Princess (2019)
The Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015)
Mary Poppins Returns (2018) ~
Strange Magic (2015)
Kim Possible (2019) [My sister and I watched the TV show a lot when we were little, so we had to watch this]
You Can't Take it With You (1938)
The House With a Clock in Its Walls (2018) [Yikes! This was really creepy to me!]
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (2016) [This traumatized me because it was so scary!]
Batman (1989)
The Little Mermaid (2018)
Leap! (2017)
How To Train Your Dragon: Hidden World (2019) ~
Thor (2011)
What's Up Doc? (1972) [This was a hilarious screwball comedy!]
Pitch Perfect (2012) [Not my thing.]
The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance (1962)*
The Wild Country (1970)
The Magnificent Seven (1960)
Midnight Sun (2018) [This is a rag-bag, meaning that it is made to get you to cry.]

It's a Wonderful World (1939)

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1 (2010)
Pitch Perfect 2 (2015) [The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over, expecting different results. I didn't like the first one, so why did I watch the second one? I'm crazy. I'm so tired of it that I'm not putting a picture.]
Field of Dreams (1989)
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2 (2011)
The Phantom of the Opera (2004)
DJ Cinderella (2017) [As I said before, if it is a Cinderella retelling I'll watch it even though it is weird. I have a problem, send help.]

Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)
Pride & Prejudice & Zombies (2016)
Sullivan's Travels (1941)
A Fish Called Wanda (1988) [Did I hate this? Yes. Do I regret watching it? Yes. Am I trying to erase it from my memory? Yes. Am I going to put a picture of it here? No, no I am not.]
The Man Who Invented Christmas (2017)
The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002)
STAR WARS IX: The Rise of Skywalker (2019) ~
Okko's Inn (2018)
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003) [Technically I had seen most of this before, but I was really little and had no clue of what was happening.]

Total: 67 movies

As you can see, 2019 was a MARVELous year because I decided to try to watch all of the movies in the MCU. I had only seen 5 of them previously, and obviously I didn't watch all of them, but I got pretty far!

I have an awesome story to go with that. My Spanish teacher and I had been talking about Marvel movies because I told her that I was watching them and she loves them (her favorite is Thor). She told me that I needed to see Endgame in theaters because she loved it, but I told her that I couldn't because I hadn't been able to watch Infinity War.
One day in May, I was sitting on my front steps reading my second favorite book of the year and crying (because that book is so gorgeous!!!) when she drove up in her car. I was trying to pretend then that I hadn't been crying. She said, "Here, I got this for you." and handed me a DVD of Avengers: Infinity War. She told me, "Now you have no more excuses, you have to see Endgame!" It meant so much to me that she got it for me.
I am so sorry for all of you who had to wait a whole year between Infinity War and Endgame, because I only had to wait three days and it was painful!

Series:

Sherlock (Seasons 1-4]
A Series of Unfortunate Events (Season 1 & Season 2, episodes 1-6)
Robin Hood BBC (Season 3) [REWATCH]
Gilmore Girls (Season 1, episodes 6-10)
Les Miserables (Mini series) [6 episodes]
Carmen Sandiago (Season 1)
His Dark Materials (Season 1) [Okay, so the books freaked me out, but if you think that I was watching this for any other reason besides it has James McAvoy and Lin-Manuel Miranda, you're wrong.]
Poldark (Season 5, episodes 6-8)
Downton Abbey (Season 6, episodes 7-8) [Finally finished it!]
Haters Back Off (Season 1, episode 1)
Shakespeare and Hathaway (1 episode)
Nancy Drew (First episode, but then quit)

  1. Ahhhhhh The Magnificent Seven made your favorites list. I am a happy girl indeed. SUCH a good movie right there.

YOU ONLY HAD TO WAIT THREE DAYS BETWEEN INFINITY WAR AND ENDGAME. My dear that is simply not fair. ;) (Well I guess those of us who went to see Infinity War were asking for it...)

Is Driving Miss Daisy any good? It was mentioned as pretty much the antithesis of "Do the Right Thing" when we watched that in a college class last year, and I kinda didn't like "Do the Right Thing" at all, so I'm curious.

    1. The perfectionist part of my brain just realized that I should have put it at 7 because of the title. XD I was not expecting to enjoy it so much, but it was so good!

Sorry... XD Well, I guess that you got to see Infinity War in the theater and in all of that time I had seen some spoilers so we're even. ;)

It won Best Picture at the Oscars that year, and I definitely think that it deserved it. It's a very quiet movie, but has a lovely message of friendship. I'm thinking about maybe reviewing it soon. I haven't seen Do The Right Thing yet so I can't compare them. What were your thoughts on that one?

    2. Haha! That would've been perfect. :D

      Even Steven.

Ooh I love quiet movies. Do The Right Thing was the opposite of quiet. There was so much profanity. So. Much. Profanity. Everybody was shouting at each other the whole time, and it escalated into pointless violence, and there was not a lot of hope to be had. Which was kind of interesting, from an analytic point of view? How the profanity tied into the violence and the theme of not listening so well? I enjoyed writing the paper on it. But I did not enjoy the movie. :)

    3. Quiet movies can be so refreshing, ya know? *groans* Oh man, I can't stand a lot of profanity. It sounds like I would have it on mute the entire time. Violence, too? Movies without hope are so depressing! That's interesting, and I wouldn't have made that connection but now that you say it it is so true! In a world with shouting there is no listening. Your paper sounds really well written and I'd love to read it if you ever share it on your blog! :D

  2. I love Monkey Business and since I love screwball I'll have to try the other one you listed.

I wish I'd gone to see Endgame in theater, it was SO good. But I hadn't loved Infinity war, so I guess I didn't expect it to be good (which is probably part of why I liked it so much).

I think I mostly just watched Hallmark, unfortunately.

    1. The director of What's Up Doc? loved Bringing Up Baby (1938) (which is my favorite screwball!) and took inspiration from it. Have you seen that one?

When I first saw Infinity War I didn't like it as much as Endgame, but thinking about it I decided that I really enjoyed it! And of course Endgame was amazing!

I'm surprised that I only watched one! But it was fun and distracting when I couldn't feel my face. :)

  4. Lots of goodness here! (Also, wow, your Spanish teacher rocks.)

So many I love here. The Avengers (one of my top 10 fave movies ever), Monkey Business, Fantastic Beasts (awwww, really? If that scared you, how was House with a Clock in its Walls, because that looked so freaky I avoided watching the trailer more than once), Thor, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, The Magnificent Seven (also in my top 10), Endgame, Angel and the Badman, Phantom of the Opera, Ragnarok (which I ADORE), Two Towers, Return of the King... so much GOOD STUFF!!!

    1. It was a great movie watching year! (She is the best!!)

I think a big reason of why I didn't like Fantastic Beasts was because I had seen The House With a Clock in its Walls the day before and was seriously creeped out by that. My sisters loved it, and I usually am absolutely fine with magic, but in here it scared me to no end. So, with Fantastic Beasts I was still having the effects of THWaCiiW. Also with Fantastic Beasts [spoilers] I was so affected by the fact that they couldn't save the boy and being consumed by darkness is something that is terrifying to me. Maybe a rewatch is in order!
I was so glad to finally enter the MCU fandom! And I'm not the biggest fan of westerns, but I loved seeing some of the classics! Finishing LotR was great to check off the list, too. :-)
