Movie Review: R.V. (2006)

Hello, people!

Happy Father's Day! We owe a lot to our fathers, they teach us so much, and love us no matter what.

Because of this, I am going to review a movie that is all about a father and his family! This is a good movie to watch together with your father today, or any day.

My guarantee: On ALL of my reviews there are NO spoilers unless I give you warning.

R.V. (2006):
(Also known as Runaway Vacation)
"I'm the father, I'm evil. I forgot."
When Bob Munro's job is at stake he has to cancel his family's trip to Hawaii, but knows that he won't have any time to spend with his kids for the rest of the summer. He has to be in Boulder, Colorado for a meeting, but thinks that the family will be mad at him if he cancels their trip just to do more work. He comes up with a solution: rent an R.V. and go to Colorado for their vacation, all the while keeping the motive secret. They encounter animals, mishaps, and an overly friendly family. His kids meanwhile hate that they aren't in Hawaii. Will the continue to hate this road trip, or will finally bond?
'"You're just determined to have a bad time, aren't you?"
"We all are, daddy."'
Genre: Comedy.
Length: approx. 99 minutes.
Costumes: 6, some of them are a little low or tight.
Script: 6, there is using the Lord's name in vain, a lot. And one or two other bad words.
"Anything else you want to hit?"
Crew:
Directed by: Barry Sonnenfeld
Written by: Geoff Rodkey
Starring:
Robin Williams as Bob Munro.
Cheryl Hines as Jamie Munro. "Honey, try to remember: we're not friendly."
Joanna Levesque as Cassie Munro.
Josh Hutcherson as Carl Munro.
Jeff Daniels as Travis Gornicke.
Kristin Chenoweth as Mary Jo Gornicke.
Hunter Parrish as Earl Gornicke.
Chloe Sonnenfeld as Moon Gornicke.
Alex Ferris as Billy Gornicke
Will Arnett as Todd Mallory.
Rob LaBelle as Larry Moiphine.
Brian Markinson as Garry Moiphine.
Barry Sonnenfeld as Irv.
Richard Ian Cox as Laird.
Cinematography: 7, nothing exciting.
Cinematography by: Fred Murphy.
Music: 8, I do like the songs they chose to play throughout!
Music by: James Newton Howard.
Quotes: 8, "What do they even like about us? We're not even that appealing!"
Storyline: 5, oh dear. Okay, so there are some really suggestive things, some really, really gross things, and crude humor.
Good For: Families. As I said, today would be a good day to watch it!
Age Range: I was introduced to it by an 7 year old who loves it.
Overall Score: 6.5.
Bonus thoughts:
This isn't a bad movie! It has its funny moments, and it has got a good message about family. Sometimes we can under appreciate all that people do for us, so it is a good reminder.
This movie has a lot of stereotypes, especially about the homeschooled family, the Gornickes, that the Munros meet. Being homeschooled myself, some of it is definitely not true to reality, but one of my favorite parts is when Cassie Munro is talking to them and suddenly says, "So, you guys are smart." Just because we are homeschooled doesn't mean that we are learning less!
As I said, there is some crude humor, and things that are supposed to be funny but aren't, but it is a fun family movie.
"Is he being funny? I can never tell."

Also, I have two new pages! I used to have one page that was Good Books & Movies, where it was random books and movies that I liked, but I now have two pages! My Favorites, which is my top 100 books and movies, and My Reviews, which is has a link to every review that I have ever done. So check those out!

Thanks for reading, and happy Father's day!

Movie Review: Robots (2005)

Hello!
Today, I am part of Hamlette at Hamlette's Soliloquy, and Quiggy at Midnite Drive-In's Robots in Film Blogathon!
Today, I am going to review one of my favorite movies when I was younger, Robots (2005)! I didn't watch it a lot, but when I did my sister and I would pretend that I was the blue robot (Rodney), because blue is the best color ever, and my sister was the yellow robot (Piper, "Rhymes with viper").

"I've got to say, you aren't making a very good first impression."

Sorry! I'll stop rambling. Here it is:

My guarantee: On ALL of my reviews there are NO spoilers unless I give you warning.

Robots (2005):
"You can shine no matter what you're made of."
Rodney Copperbottom has created an invention, named Wonderbot, that he thinks could help robots (which is, another robot). He travels to Robot City to visit his childhood hero, Bigweld, to see what he thinks of it. But when he gets there he finds that Robot City is a mess: Bigweld is missing, all old parts are being discontinued, and the robots are being forced to buy upgrades, which all look the same so no one is unique. As an inventor he helps by fixing all the robots in need, and finds himself being taken in by a group of friendly, but desperate for parts, robots. He decides that he needs to find Bigweld, and the whole team sets off to find him and stop the evil Ratchet.
"This is where we show what we're made of."
Genre: Comedy, Animated.
Length: approx. 91 minutes.
Costumes: 8, Well, there aren't really costumes here. But, I definitely prefer the old looks to the upgrades!
Script: 7, there is a bad word or two, insulting names/calling people mean names.
"Good luck with your dastardly plans!"
Crew:
Directed by: Chris Wedge
Produced by: Jerry Davis, William Joyce, John C. Donkin.
Written by: David Lindsay-Abaire, Lowell Ganz, Babaloo Mandel, Ron Mita, Jim McClain, & David Lindsay-Abaire
Starring:
Ewan McGregor as Rodney Copperbottom. "I want to grow up to be like you."
Robin Williams as Fender Pinwheeler.
Being dramatic, as always.
Amanda Bynes as Piper Pinwheeler.

Mel Brooks as Bigweld.
Greg Kinnear as Phineas T. Ratchet.
Jim Broadbent as Madame Gasket.
Halle Berry as Cappy.
Jennifer Coolidge as Aunt Fanny.
Paul Giamatti as Tim
Drew Carey as Crank Casey.
Harland Williams as Lugnut.
Natasha Lyonne as Loretta Geargrinder.
Stanley Tucci as Herb Copperbottom.
Dianne Wiest as Lydia Copperbottom.
Animation: 8, I don't like a lot of digital animation, but for some reason I've always loved this. Maybe it is because of the way the good characters have really bright colors, and the villains have darker colors, and how that really sets the mood!
Music: 8, "It's a fusion of jazz and funk, I call it junk!" It is really funny, we have a video of my dad and I coming up with the exact same thing even before I saw this!
Music by: John Powell
Quotes: 9, "A dream that you don't fight for can haunt you for the rest of your life."
Notes: They have a lot of references to many other movies including: Star Wars, Singin' in the Rain, & The Wizard of Oz.
Storyline: 6, there are some suggestive things, bathroom jokes, gross things, "smoking", and crude humor. Though it has all of that, it has a really good message of "Never, never, give up."
Overall Score: 7.5!

A big thank you to Hamlette and Quiggy for hosting this! Go check out the other entries HERE.

Have you seen this? What do think? Who is your favorite bot?

Thanks for reading!

Movie Review: Hook (1991)

Hello!
Crystal at In The Good Old Days of Classic Hollywood, and Gill at Realweegiemidget Reviews, are hosting a Robin Williams blogathon, and as he is one of my favorite actors, I had to participate!
Do remember all the way back in November, when I reviewed Peter Pan, and showed you my Halloween costume? I absolutely love Peter Pan, and I will try any and every version or story about it. I saw this for the first time several years ago, but I hadn't seen it since I actually read the book. I was shocked, it held so many themes that were in the book! It was such a pleasant surprise.

Andddd.... apologizes for being so late all the time. Man, blogging has not been my thing this year. I promise I'll get better in April.

My guarantee: On ALL of my reviews there are NO spoilers unless it says so.

Anyway, enough chit-chat, here is....

Hook (1991):
"Only you can save your children."
Peter Banning is definitely "grown-up". As a lawyer, he is busy all the time and barely gets to spend time with his family. They go on a trip to London to visit the woman, Wendy, who got him adopted.
While they are there his children, Jack and Maggie, get kidnapped! A mysterious note is left, signed by Captain Jas. Hook. Wendy tells Peter who he really is, so off and away he goes to Neverland, to try to remember how to fly.
"You're doing it, you're using your imagination!"
Genre: Adventure, Action, Fantasy
Length: approx. 142 minutes.
Costumes: 7, they are all so good, but there are times when they are a little short, and where people are not wearing shirts.
My favorite: I mean, it's obvious, right? I dressed up like him:
Script: 6, there are a few bad words.
"I've just had an apostrophe."
"I think you mean an Epiphany."
Crew:
Directed by: Steven Spielberg
Produced by:
Kathleen Kennedy
Frank Marshall
Gerald R. Molen
Written by:
Jim V. Hart
Malia Scotch Marmo
Jim V. Hart
Nick Castle
Based on: Peter Pan (Also titled: Peter & Wendy) - by J. M. Barrie
Starring: "Who's the shrub?"
Robin Williams as Peter Banning, "Peter, you've become a pirate."
Dustin Hoffman as Captain Jas. Hook, "You're a bad man."
Maggie Smith as Wendy
Caroline Goodall as Moira Banning
Bob Hoskins as Smee
Julia Roberts as Tinker Bell
Dante Basco as Rufio
Amber Scott as Maggie Banning, "I've made you a hug."
Charlie Korsmo as Jack Banning
Arthur Malet as Tootles
Isaiah Robinson as Pockets
Jasen Fisher, Raushan Hammond, James Madio, Thomas Tulak, Alex Zuckerman, and Ahmad Stoner as Lost Boys
"Hold that happy thought."
Cinematography by: Dean Cundey
Music: 8
Music by: John Williams
Quotes: 9, "Hook's afraid of time, ticking away."
Notes: This movie is so sweet, it will make you cry, and it will make you laugh.
Storyline: 6, there is some suggestive things, kissing, smoking, and death.
"You need a mother, very badly."
Good For: All Peter Pan fans.
Overall Score: 7.5

And I got carried away with the pictures. Sorry about that...

Have any of you seen Hook? What did you think of it? Thank you so much to Crystal and Gill for hosting this!
