Movie Review: The Adventures of Tintin (2011)

Hello, to all of you!

It seems to be a trend to take some classic cartoon (whether it is in print or a tv show) and make a movie where they change it into digital animation. I wasn't a fan of the concept, but a few of the results have turned out pretty well! One of them is this movie! I wasn't very familiar with the Tintin comics before this, but I really enjoyed this movie and since then have liked the comics that I've gotten to read!

This film takes you on quite and adventure, are you ready for this review?

My guarantee: On ALL of my reviews there are NO spoilers unless I give you warning. This is spoiler free!

The Adventures of Tintin (2011):
(aka The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn)
Based on: the comics by Hergé.
"Nothing is an accident."
Tintin is a young journalist who stumbles upon a new mystery by purchasing an antique model of a ship. The moment he does someone tries to buy it from him, but he doesn't sell it because this has really caught his interest. Through this tiny ship he finds himself on a trek around the world, and through history, where he meets friends and foes. What mysteries does the ship The Unicorn hold, and is there more that one?
"What secrets do you hold?"
Genre: Mystery, Family, Animated, Adventure.
Length: approx. 107 minutes.
Costumes: 8, animated so there isn't a lot of focus on it, but I don't mind. Nothing bad!
Script: 10, Captain Haddock swears a lot, but there aren't any bad words! He just kind of yells whatever comes into his head. His favorite is: "Billions of blue blistering barnicles!" Which my sisters and I now yell a lot, too.
Crew: Directed by: Steven Spielberg. Written by: Steven Spielberg, Steven Moffat, Edgar Wright, Joe Cornish, & Hergé.
Starring the voices of:
Jamie Bell as Tintin.
Andy Serkis as Captain Haddock. "I don't remember anything about anything."
Nick Frost and Simon Pegg as Thompson and Thompson. "I am not your sidekick, you're mine."
Daniel Craig as Ivan Ivanovitch Sakharine.
Toby Jones as Aristides Silk.
Gad Elmaleh as Omar ben Salaad.
Joe Starr as Barnaby Dawes.
Enn Reitel as Nestor & Mr. Crabtree.
Tony Curran as Lieutenant Delcour.
Sonje Fortag as Mrs. Finch.
Cary Elwes and Phillip Rhys as pilots.
Kim Stengel as Bianca Castafiore.
Nathan Meister as Market Artist.
Animation: 10, ACK. As you all know, digital animation is not my favorite, but this is absolutely spectacular! The transitions from scene to scene are phenomenal! Plus, the way that they included the original animation is brilliant. I couldn't find the image that I wanted to show you, but believe me, it's amazing.
Music: 9, it's just so much fun. It totally gets you into a mystery mood! It goes so well with the opening credits (which have the original animation) and it is great.
Music by: John Williams.
Quotes: 9, as I said above, my sisters and I quote Captain Haddock quite a bit. Tintin also has some good lines!
"The library should have the answer."
Content: 7, there is death, gross things, smoking, a lot of drinking, and violence.
Originality: 10, love it! Afterwards the mystery seems so obvious and I couldn't believe that I had missed it, but it also is super complex.
Good For: mystery lovers, literally anyone!
Age Range: It's rated PG because there is that violence and drinking. I would say anyone over 8 would be fine, but it always depends on the individual.
Overall Score: 9!
"There's something you need to know about failure, Tintin, you can never let it beat you."
Bonus thoughts:
Do you know those movies where you just have such good memories of you watching them? Well, this is one of those for me. The first time I saw this was at my grandma's and I was sitting eating orange "snow balls". The opening had me hooked and I never looked away! I made my sisters watch it as soon as they could, and it is one of our favorites! The characters are so endearing and loveable, you love to watch them. Tintin is so resourceful, and Captain Haddock has gone through some rough things but you continue to route for him. I will not forget my precious little Snowy! That dog is so adorable and I love how he gets Tintin in (and occasionally out of) trouble! If nothing else, watch for the outstanding animation! If you can't tell, I'm so impressed.

Have any of you seen this? Tell me your favorite animated mystery movie! Stay safe and healthy!

Thanks for reading!

Movie Review: Amazing Grace (2006)

Hello, everyone!!

For my movie review today, I am going to review one of my favorite movies of all time! This movie has everything, it is inspirational, hopeful, beautiful, and it has an all star cast. If you haven't seen this movie, you really need to!

This review is spoiler free, because: My guarantee: On ALL of my reviews there are NO spoilers unless I give you warning.

Presenting:

Amazing Grace (2006):
Based on: The true story:
'"It will soon change."
"Only if we change it."'
When in Parliament, there are many different things to think about, and William Wilberforce has become aware of the slave trade. He knows that it is a terrible thing, but isn't sure if he can stop it. His heart sings the song that his old preacher, John Newton, wrote. John was the captain of slave ships for many years, but finally repented, turned to God, and wrote the song "Amazing Grace". It would be a lot of work, and William doesn't know if he is strong enough. With the sides of Parliament against him, will he persevere or will the fight be too much to bear?
"Do you intend to use your beautiful voice to praise the Lord, or change the world?"
Genre: Biography, Period Drama.
Length: approx. 116 minutes.
Costumes: 10! They are all perfect.
My favorite: I know that whenever you see pictures from this movie, this one is featured, but look at that hat! It is pretty impressive.
Script: 8, they use the Lord's name in vain a few times (but honestly, it's what they did in those days.) They also call people bad names, but it is seen in a bad light.
"The water has been here a thousand years, how can we be late?"
Crew:
Directed by: Michael Apted.
Written by: Steven Knight.
Starring:
Ioan Gruffudd as William Wilberforce. "You're waking me up to give me medicine, to help me sleep?"
Romola Garai as Barbara Spooner.
Benedict Cumberbatch as William Pitt the Younger.
Michael Gambon as Charles James Fox.
Rufus Sewell as Thomas Clarkson.
Youssou N'Dour as Olaudah Equiano. "Your life is a thread, either it breaks or it doesn't."
Albert Finney as John Newton. "I don't hear the nib scratching the paper."
Ciarán Hinds as Banastre Tarleton.
Toby Jones as William, Duke of Clarence.
Nicholas Farrell as Henry Thornton.
Sylvestra Le Touzel as Marianne Thornton.
Jeremy Swift as Richard the Butler.
Stephen Campbell Moore as James Stephen.
Bill Paterson as Henry Dundas.
Nicholas Day as Sir William Dolben.
Georgie Glen as Hannah More.
Cinematography: 10! Oh, I love it! I love the scenes in nature and how it focuses on different people.
Cinematography by: Remi Adefarasin.
Music: 10, it has a lovely score, and of course, the song "Amazing Grace".
Music by: David Arnold.
Quotes: 10! I seriously could just type out the whole movie, it is that quotable. The only reason I didn't is because I ran out of room.
"Why is it you only feel the thorns in your feet when you stop running?"
Oscars won: None! They weren't even nominated for anything, but I really think they should have won as many as possible.
Storyline: 10. I feel like I haven't been the best explaining the reasons for this category. One day I'll do a post on it. Anyway, there is slavery, drinking, suggestive things, taking drugs, BUT they are all shown as bad things and are trying to get rid of them. It also has someone who has lost fingers, but it's only me who gets freaked out by that.
"If you make the world better in one way, it becomes better in many ways."
Good For: Everyone!
Age Range: I watched it when I was really little, and I was very confused. I had a feeling that it was an amazing movie, but I just didn't understand. But, I'd say that anyone who is over 10 would understand.
"Remember that God made all men equal."
Overall Score: 9.5!!
Bonus thoughts:
Oh, what a wonderful film. The all-star cast is amazing. This is the only thing that I have seen Ioan Gruffudd and Romola Garai in, but they are wonderful. I have seen Michael Gambon, Albert Finney, and Benedict Cumberbatch in other things, but these are my favorite roles for all of them. I also have only ever seen Rufus Sewell as a villain, but he does such a good job here!
Now, this movie also has such powerful religious messages.
'"You found God, sir?"
"I think He found me."'
William Wilberforce is thinking about going into the church, but all of his friends are trying to convince him to stay in Parliament. This is actually something that has been on my mind recently, so it was wonderful to once again watch it play out.
This line that Albert Finney says as John Newton is so powerful (he should have won an Oscar), that I always cry:
"Although my memory's fading, I remember two things very clearly:
I'm a great sinner and Christ is a great Savior."

I cannot tell you enough times to watch it if you haven't. Go! Now! You'll thank me!

Thanks for reading! Please tell me I'm not the only person who has seen this.

Movie Review: Ever After (1998)

Hello!
"Why, if it isn't Ethel Barrymore." (No, Drew Barrymore!) ("Anyone? Anyone? Anyone?") ("Why does she keep doing that?")
Crystal at In The Classic Old Days Of Hollywood, is hosting the Third Annual Barrymore Trilogy Blogathon!

Yes, yes, I know that Drew Barrymore isn't one of The Three, but she is on the list of possible actors and actress to review for this. So it's not cheating.

Anyway, enough talk, here is my review of a Cinderella story set in Leonardo de Vinci's time:

Ever After, A Cinderella Story (1998):
"What is that phrase you use? Oh yes, Once upon a time..."
Danielle is a girl who only wants one thing, the love of a mother. Danielle does what ever her step-mother says, so that maybe one day she will love Danielle. When Danielle's step-mother, Baroness Rodmilla de Ghent, sells one of the servants Danielle does the unthinkable: she dresses above her rank so that she can go to the castle and get Maurice back. But, there she runs into the rebellious prince, Henry, and he is stunned by her amazing words.
'"Is there anything you don't do?"
"Fly!"'
Genre: Fairytale retelling, Period Drama, Romance.
Costumes: 9! These costumes are fabulous! Besides that fact that some of them are a little low (coughMargueritecough) and in one part a character is in their underclothes for a scene, they are all stunning and they fit the period so well!! Okay, I also don't like one of Henry's.
My favorite: Though the Baroness's outfits are elegant, my favorites are Danielle's. Sorry, this is the best picture I could find of it.
"You look like a girl!"
Script: 8, there are only a few bad words.
"Do not speak unless you can improve the silence."
Crew:
Directed by: Andy Tennant
Produced by:
Mireille Soria
Tracey Trench
Screenplay by:
Susannah Grant
Andy Tennant
Rick Parks
Based on: Cinderella, by Charles Perrault
Starring:
Drew Barrymore as Danielle. (I think she is great for this part, but some people don't like her accent.)
"You have more conviction in one sentence than I have in my entire being!"
Anjelica Huston as Baroness Rodmilla de Ghent. "Oh! I do love a good intrigue!"
Dougray Scott as Prince Henry. (At first I didn't like him as the prince, but as the movie goes on I did.) "I will simply deny you the crown and live forever!"
Megan Dodds as Marguerite.
Melanie Lynskey as Jacqueline. "You're only here for the food."
Lee Ingleby as Gustave.
Patrick Godfrey as Leonardo da Vinci.
Timothy West as King Francis. "I thought I had problems."
Judy Parfitt as Queen Marie.
Matyelok Gibbs as Louise.
Kate Lansbury as Paulette.
Walter Sparrow as Maurice.
Jeanne Moreau as Grande Dame.
Toby Jones as Royal Page.
Music: 10!
Music by: George Fenton.
Quotes: 10! "There was a bee." My sisters and I use this all. the. time!
Storyline: 7, there is suggestive stuff, person relieving, and kissing.
"You learn to pay attention."
Good For: Fairytale lovers!
Overall Score: 9! This is a fabulous movie. Go watch it!!

The lovely Olivia at Meanwhile in Rivendell... made this header and I am loving it!
Why I have this header is because the top middle picture is from Ever After!

Thank you so much for reading! Be sure to go check out the rest of the fun!
