Hattie Inez Brooks has inheirited 320 achers of land, a cabin, a sturdy horse named Plug, and an irratating cow named Violet. All this in Montana and she has to prove this claim before November. Characters: 9, Hattie Inez Brooks was the name of Kirby Larson's great-grandmother, so this is sort of (only sort of) based on her life there.

Roster Jim Words: 8 pretty good, there are only one or two bad words. I love how each chapter starts with a letter. It really sets the scene for that chapter. Storyline: 10! This is really a story of devotion. I mean, think about it, she is only sixteen! And how tight the community is. Overall Score: 9! I recommend it highly!
So, you may have noticed that movies are my speicalty and I'm not really good at reviewing books, so if any of you have any tips to share, I'll welcome them gladly!

A few weeks ago, I had my Post Halloween Blog Party and one of the posts was about Cruella de Vil and One Hundred and One Dalmatians. I hadn't gotten the book in and read in time, but I did get it and read it so I will be reviewing that and some up-dated thoughts on Cruella de Vil. Enjoy!
The Hundred and One Dalmatians, by Dodie Smith:
Two dalmatians, Pongo and Missis, will soon be parents to puppies! When they arrive there are fifteen of them, and that is too many for Missis to handle. Mr. and Mrs. Dearly there pets, find another dalmatian, Perdita, who will help feed the puppies. One day, the puppies are stolen, and it is up to Pongo, Missis, and the Twilight Barking to save them! Characters: 10, I love how there are such vivid characters here. Such as all the different personalities of the dogs and Cruella de Vil, but more on her later. Favorite Characters:
Missis: I love how some times she doesn't understand things as well as Pongo, it makes her character very real.
"The Spaniel noticed her dazed look and said playfully: 'Now which is you right paw?' 'One of the front ones.' Missis said brightly."
Pongo: I love how he takes the situation into his hands (paws) and works it out. He is the smartest of his kind.
Lucky: He really looks up to his dad, and others look up to him. Words: 9, Oh! There are so many fun references. Like how, "What's my Crime?" is like "What's my Line?" My favorite quote was one that had me really laughing:
"He nearly upset his important business deal by holding a pup to his ear and and giving the telephone a drink of milk."
I don't know why I thought it was so funny, but I did. Storyline: 10, Oh my! This is truly a lovely story about how Pongo and Missis could give up so much to get there puppies back. And I really loved how all the animals worked together.
The book, as always, was SO much better than either of the movies, I think the movie that is closer to it is the 1961 version. This is really a lovely story, no bad language, I really recommend it!! You can find my reviews of the two movies, HERE.

One of the things I found really interesting in the book was how much Cruella really was like a devil. How she loved the heat. And it was interesting about her interest in pepper. How everything in her house tasted of pepper and how she tasted of pepper. "Don't bit her chaps, she tastes hot!"
Also how, for lack of a better word, neat she is. In this picture you can see she has her hair very slick, when we are all used to sort of crazy hair. You can see a bit of her car here; black and white stripes!
To answer my question, she is Mrs. Dearly's old school "friend." But,
'She was no friend of mine, I was scared of her.'

Once again I am here participating in Amber at Seasons of Humility's Emma Read-Along, to disscuss my opinions on Emma, by Jane Austen, for this week, the last bit! Here are HER thoughts on this last bit. I am so, so, so, sorry this is so late! Nov. has been so busy/crazy that I haven't had time! But I am getting it out today!! Also, thank you so much to Kara at Flowers of Quiet Happiness, it was through her that I heard of this!
SPOILER ALERT! Since it is about the very end, there will be spoilers. So if you haven't read Emma, by Jane Austen, do not read this!
Favorite Quotes:
"I have always admired her complexion," replied Emma, archly; "but do not I remember the time when you found fault with her for being so pale? When we first began to talk of her. Have you quite forgotten?"
But, in spite of these deficiencies, the wishes, the hopes, the confidence, the predictions of the small band of true friends who witnessed the ceremony, were fully answered in the perfect happiness of the union. Finis
General Impression:
Through out the book we have seen the changes in Emma. That is what I think the book is all about. Changing to be a better person. That doesn't mean that you have to change the people around you. Just by changing yourself to the better, other things will seem to change. It might be your point of view; Mr. Martin is just right for Harriet. Also, if you are a bachorler/bachorlette and you try matchmaking, you will eventually get a match yourself.

Well, to tell you the truth, I don't really have any questions, I can happily say they were answered! But I'll try to come up with some.
1. Who was your favorite character?
2. Is there a movie version of Emma that you have seen and is very close to this?
3. What did you learn from this?
4. Who do you think changed the most?
My Answers to Amber's Questions:
1. What did you think of Mr. Elton's choice in a wife? And do you believe Mrs. Elton truly cared about Jane Fairfax? At first I thought him to be a different person, but as we saw his true colors, I think she suits him perfectly. Or at least they deserve each other. 2. Which scene of the story stood out to you the most? Perhaps one that made you chuckle...or one that melted your heart...or one that made you cringe with embarrassment. Well, I chuckled when they were trying to figure out the charade. By that I mean Harriet was trying to figure it out. Emma had it nailed. One that mealted my heart was when they kept meeting Mr. Martian and Emma didn't want Harriet to pay him so much but you can see they still like each other. Oh, the Box Hill scene. 3. Were you content with the matches that were made by the end of the story? Do you think everyone ended up in the right relationships? I do, I really do. I love happy endings!!! I just had to through that in there. 4. Have you read any other Jane Austen novels? If so, which is your favorite, and how doesEmmarank on your list?
Well, I have read Sense and Sensibility, Northanger Abbey, and now Emma. I would have to have them go like this: 1. Sense and Sensibility/Emma 2. Northanger Abbey.

Welcome to my last day of my Post Halloween Blog Party!
I am introducing Older vs. Newer. I will be reviewing the 1961 version of 101 Dalmatians, then I will be reviewing the 1996 version, then I will be doing thoughts on Cruella de Vil. I am so sorry I couldn't do a review of the book as well, but I was getting it on inter-library loan, but I got the wrong one, not the original by Dodie Smith! Then I ordered it, but it hasn't come! Why this button? This one is probably the hardest, but it is supposed to be fur.
101 Dalmatians (1961):
A dog, Pongo, falls in love with another dalmatian, Perdita, then there owners fall in love and get married. Pongo and Perdita have 15 puppies, which in a few weeks are stolen! Using the starlight barking system, all the dogs in London are on the look out. Finally they are found along with 84 more! They are all going to be killed for there fur! Pongo and Perdita have to find a way to get them all home! Costumes: 7, we all know Cruella has the best costumes, but we will see that later. So I choose this one of Anita's. When a clothing designer and a video game designer meet, they and there dogs, dalmatians, fall in love. The dalmatians have puppies who are then stolen a few weeks later! They bark the news through out London and a dog spots them. (Ha, ha, I didn't even mean to do that.) It's up to all the country animals to help them! Thoughts on Cruella, Cruella de Vil.

Oh Boy! Cruella de Vil is probably the wickedest of the bunch! Taking little puppies to make into a fur coat! And unlike the others I have done, she has no love of anything exept fur. "It's my only love." I have looked up and down and I can't find a single good part of her! Can any of you? In the 1961 version, it says that she is a school mate of Anita. In the 1996 version, it says she was her boss. Does anyone know which one it is?
