(NOTE: All of January is ThunderbirdQueen and Miss Woodhouseʼs 23: An MCU Blogathon. I will be filling the tag connected with that blogathon later in the month, but I had to do this first due to prior plans. Watch for that later!)
For years Iʼd been hearing about the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), but I started watching the movies in earnest in 2018. In April of 2019 Christine Smith created this tag in anticipation of Avengers: Endgame (2019) and I saw many people fill it out. I decided that I would do that as soon as I saw all of the movies.
Here we are in January of 2021 and Iʼve finally completed that task! The last film that I needed was Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018) and I watched that on January 5th, so I can now fill this out!
What is more fun that one personʼs answers to a tag? Three answers! Because my sisters and I have had such a blast enjoying so many of the movies together I asked them if they wanted to specially come on here and answer them with me. They said, “Of course!” so here we are!
SPOILER ALERT. THIS CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR THE ENTIRE MCU, SO IF YOU HAVENʼT SEEN ABSOLUTELY ALL OF THE MOVIES, THEN READ NO FURTHER. YOU WANT TO ENJOY ALL OF THE SURPRISED FOR YOURSELF!
Last chance. Walk away and donʼt return until you have seen all of the films!
Organization:
In order to make this easier to read, I have put the personʼs name in front of anything that she said, and also color coded it. My older sister Em is red. I (MC), am blue. My younger sister Fiona is green.
Guidelines:
- Feel free to include the above graphic somewhere in your post (but it’s definitely not necessary).
- Take the questions and answer them on your blog (or social media or wherever!).
- Tag up to 5 other Marvel fans!
The questions:
How were you introduced to the MCU fandom?
Emʼs answer:
Em: *whispers* I donʼt remember. I honestly donʼt remember what the first movie I watched was.
MC: Well, when were you watching a Marvel movie and you thought, “Wow, this is awesome! I want to see more like this”?
Em: Probably when I was watching The Avengers (2012) for the first time, and I only saw the second half. I guess I know that Captain America was one of the first movies that I saw bits of, but it didnʼt spark my interest in it because you know how I am. Iʼm not a fan of Cap.
Fionaʼs answer:
Fiona: I donʼt know.
MC: *groans*
Fiona: You tell me! I think it was Spider-man: Homecoming (2017).
Em and MC: You didnʼt see that until after Infinity War and Endgame!
[MC: Fun fact, Fiona actually saw Spider-man: Homecoming (2017) and Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019) for the first time on the same day]
Fiona: Oh, I know! You [MC] were watching The Avengers (2012) and I made you a sandwich and brought it in to you. It looked interesting, so I started watching.
MC: See how sweet she is! She makes me food! I remember that exact part, it was when Coulson calls Black Widow and sheʼs talking on the phone while fighting.
Em: I was there, too.
MCʼs answer:
MC: My dad was watching a movie and I was hanging out in the same room. That movie was Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014).
MC: Also, the correct answer for both Em and Fiona: The first MCU movie that they watched was Doctor Strange (2016).
[MC: I promise that weʼre going to be more organized after this answer.]
Whatʼs your favorite Marvel film?
Fiona: Oh, no! You canʼt ask me that! ENDGAME! Actually, thereʼs really no question, itʼs Endgame. How could it not be? But if you excluded Endgame, that would be really hard.
[MC: Sheʼs fully told me her ranking several times.]
Emʼs answer:
Em: Iʼm thinking. [*thinks for ages upon ages*] I donʼt want to go with Endgame because itʼs the culmination of all of them, but you need all of the others!
Fiona: But itʼs the best!
Em: Well, yeah. Okay, Endgame because of all the scenes we get to see from the other movies.
MCʼs answer:
MC: ENDGAME. The other movies are good, but Endgame is beautiful in a way that I canʼt describe. It brought together 21 films and connected them. It is phenomenal. I actually want to do a post about why I love Endgame so much, so if that sounds interesting to you let me know.
Top favorite Marvel character?
Fionaʼs answer:
Fiona: EASY. So easy.
MC: If itʼs so easy, then tell me so I can type it.
Fiona: I...I...I canʼt tell you ʻcause Iʼm laughing. I want to be serious when I say it. *deep breath* SPIDER-MAN! Spider-man is the best person that Iʼve seen alive. Itʼs not hard, thereʼs only one answer.
Emʼs answer:
Em: LOKI. Though, he might be tied with Bucky. And Black Widow whoʼs the most awesome character ever.
MCʼs answer:
MC: My man, my dude, my favorite: CLINT BARTON AKA HAWKEYE.
If you were transported into the MCU and had to trade places with one of the superheroes, who would you choose?
[MC: There was some confusion about the phrasing at this question]
Fionaʼs answer:
Fiona: Okay, well I think... No, I donʼt want to be anyone.
MC: No one?
Fiona: The obvious answer is Black Widow, but there are too many to pick! Either that or Shuri!
Emʼs answer:
Em: Black Widow, because I donʼt want any powers. Itʼs too much responsibility and I just want to be helpful.
MCʼs answer:
MC: Scarlet Witch. She goes through the most emotionally, but she is the strongest avenger! No one matches her power (except maybe Captain Marvel because both of their powers come from Infinity stones). But Wandaʼs power came from the Mind stone, so she can do anything with her mind, including protect herself and the ones she loves. Carolʼs power comes from the Space stone, so she has physical strength, speed, and endurance.
What are some of your favorite quotes from the films?
MC: I am limiting everyone to five, and we will go one at a time. You cannot say something that someone else said.
1.
Em:
“Doesn't matter what you did, or what you were. If you go out there, you fight, and you fight to kill. Stay in here, you're good, I'll send your brother to come find you. But if you step out that door, you are an Avenger.”
~ Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015)
MC:
“The crabby puppy is so cute it makes me wanna die!”
~ Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017)
Fiona [Started out not thinking of anything, but ended up with a million]:
“I love you 3000.”
~ Avengers: Endgame (2019)
2.
Em:
“Never apologize for being the smartest person in the room.”
~ Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019)
MC:
ʻ“Mr...”
“Doctor.”
“Mr. Doctor.”
“Itʼs Strange.”
“Maybe. Who am I to judge?”ʼ
~ Doctor Strange (2016)
Fiona:
“If youʼre nothing without this suit, then you shouldnʼt have it.”
~ Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017)
3.
Em:
ʻ“Hey, letʼs do get help.”
“What?”
“Get help!”
“No.”
“Come on, you love it.”
“I hate it.”
“Itʼs great! It works every time.”
“Itʼs humiliating!”
“Do you have better plan?”
“No.”
“Weʼre doing it.”
“We are not doing get help.”
*a second later*
“Get help!”ʼ
Later, when facing down Hela: “Iʼm not doing get help.”
~ Thor: Ragnarok (2017)
MC:
ʻ“Look at you, still muscly. Howʼs space?”
“Space is fine.”ʼ
~ Thor: Dark World (2013)
(Pretty much anything Darcy says is the best)
Fiona:
ʻ“You look like Mary Poppins.”
“Is he cool?”
“----,yeah he is.”
“Iʼm Mary Poppins, yʼall!”ʼ
~ Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017)
4.
Em:
“I have nothing to prove to you.”
~ Captain Marvel (2019)
MC:
ʻ“Hey guys, you ever see that really old movie, Empire Strikes Back?”
*Tony is asked about age* “I donʼt know, I didnʼt carbon date him. Heʼs on the young side.”ʼ
~ Captain America: Civil War (2016)
Fiona:
“We are groot.”
~ Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1 (2014)
5.
Em:
“Vengeance has consumed you. It's consuming them. I'm done letting it consume me. Justice will come soon enough.”
~ Captain America: Civil War (2016)
MC:
“You didn't see that coming?”
~ Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015)
(And literally anything that Hawkeye and Quicksilver say to each other. Including Quicksilver calling him “old man”. And Hawkeye talking to Wanda, “Iʼve done that whole mind control thing. Not a fan.”. Oh, and we canʼt forget: “The city is flying and we're fighting an army of robots. And I have a bow and arrow. Nothing makes sense.”)
Fiona:
“I don't know if you've been in a fight before, but there's usually not this much talking.”
~ Captain America: Civil War (2016)
Which crew would you want to be part of the most: Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, or Revengers?
Emʼs answer:
Em: Thatʼs where Iʼm torn. I know which one I want to be on, because there is Loki, but....there is also Thor. And I donʼt like Thor.
[MC: She then had a speech about being an Avenger in Endgame if she made it that long.]
Fionaʼs answer:
Fiona: Gosh, thatʼs hard. But not that hard. Guardians of the Galaxy! Right? The Avengers fight. But see, with Guardians of the Galaxy I get Thor, too!
*after rewatching Endgame*
Fiona: Wait, I changed my mind! I want to be an avenger with Spider-man!
MCʼs answer:
MC: “If you walk out that door, you are an avenger.”
Sure, the team has itʼs differences and a civil war, but at the end they are in it together.
Favorite and least favorite ship?
Fionaʼs answer:
Fiona: *makes a face* How many ships are there?
MC: A lot!
Fiona: Okay, well my favorite is the Guardians of the Galaxy ship.
MC: *wheezing* Meaning a couple.
*Everyone else dies of laughter*
Fiona: Thatʼs why I was confused! Favorite: Jane and Thor! Theyʼre not even a "ship", theyʼre a thing!
MC: It doesnʼt have to be theoretical, it can be real.
Fiona: They are amazing. I donʼt have a least favorite and thatʼs the end of that.
Emʼs answer:
Em: Favorite: Wanda and Vision (though Iʼm not sure that Iʼm looking forward to the TV show because I have no idea how thatʼs going to work.)
Em: Least favorite: Gamora and Quill. Gamora deserves better, but the options where between that and a tree.
MCʼs answer:
MC: Favorite(s): Tony and Pepper. Steve and Peggy. Gamora and Peter Quill. TʼChalla and Nakia. I canʼt choose! I love so many of them.
[Fiona: Pick one! I love them all but I picked one.]
MC: Fine! T'Challa and Nakia just because they don't get enough love.
MC: Least favorite: Itʼs tied between two. 1. Scott and Hope: Itʼs just really weird and I donʼt like it. Canʼt people be a team without that stuff? But Scott wanting to see Hope again is what caused all of the events of Endgame, so weʼre grateful. 2. Wanda and Vision: To be honest, when Wanda was being forced to kill him in Infinity War I got really sad the last time that I watched it, but other than that it is weird. He is a robot, and she is just a teenager when they start getting together. Still, it is nice to see people who are so equally powerful. And, unlike Em, I am looking forward to WandaVision!
Favorite and least favorite villain?
Emʼs answers:
[MC: Can anyone guess who she is going to say is her favorite? I have a strong feeling that whoever it is is burdened with glorious purpose]
Em: Favorite: As we all know, it is Loki. Heʼs the antagonist, but he is just conflicted!
Em: I also like Hammer.
Fiona: *whispers* Whoʼs Hammer?
Em: I also like Hela kind of because she and Loki are alike because they want to kill Thor.
Em: Define least favorite
MC: You hate their guts and wish that they had never graced the screen---
Fiona: Thanos.
MC: Not your turn!
Em: Iʼm going to go with Ultron because while he was similar to Thanos, he was more evil because he wanted to get rid of all of humanity. He affected the team the most and started the civil war between them.
[MC: She had some very eloquent words here which I couldnʼt type fast enough, so they are lost for all eternity.]
Fionaʼs answer:
Fiona: Least favorite: Can I have a list?
MC: Sure.
Fiona: ʻCause I hate Peter Quillʼs dad. He is just the worst. I hate Thanos and I just want to chop his head off. I hate the people in the city that took Captain Marvel because theyʼre so mean and evil. Then I hate Squidward, but he works for Thanos.
Fiona: No, he is Squidward, which makes his name Squidward. Yes, there is more. Oh, HYDRA.
Em: HYDRAʼs not one person...
Fiona: I hate the guy with the glasses who works for HYDRA!
Em: Toby Jones?
Fiona: Yeah! *goes on about him for awhile* Then I hate the guy who works for HYDRA in the elevator.
*debate coming to the conclusion of the guy that Steve threw off of the roof and Sam caught him to get information*
Em and Fiona together: We love Bucky!
Fiona: Favorite: Hereʼs the complicated thing because I donʼt like any of them.
Em: You know you like Loki.
Fiona: I will say Loki, and the Dark Elves because they are hilarious. Iʼm not sure if I like Mysterio or not, because I hate him so much but he is such a well written villains. Like, the end of Spider-man: Far From Home (2019), HOW COULD YOU DO THAT TO SPIDER-MAN? I love Spider-man so much and he hurt him!
*they had a huge discussion about this that I couldnʼt type quickly enough*
Em: I was going to go with Mysterio, too, as a least favorite but Iʼm going to go with Ultron because I donʼt feel bad about killing him because he is just a robot. I want to fix all of the humans, and even Thanos too.
Fiona: Oh, oh, oh, I also like--
MC: Iʼm cutting you off.
Fiona: But I havenʼt said my favorite! *repeats my name multiple times*
MC: Fine, who do you like?
Fiona: *forgot and needed prompting* In Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018) the guy whoʼs trying to arrest Scott all the time and says "I'll see you again" and Scott asked, "For--
Fiona: Then who is?
Em and MC: The girl, Eva---
Fiona: Okay, I just love all of the villains in Ant-Man and the Wasp, even “Truth serum” guys.
MCʼs answer:
MC: Favorite: Vulture (from Spider-man: Homecoming (2017)).
And Ant Man and Wasp people, both Eva and the professor who helps her. They had such strong motivations and they werenʼt evil, just wanting to save Eva.
MC: Least favorite: Thanos or Peter Quillʼs dad. And Ulysses Klaue. Iʼm very conflicted about Killmonger in Black Panther (2018) and donʼt know if I like him or hate him.
Unpopular MCU opinion?
At the same time:
Em: Lokiʼs the best! Fiona: Lokiʼs the worst!
MC: I think that those are both pretty popular opinions. *Em goes into speech about Loki*
Fionaʼs answer:
Fiona: I donʼt have one because Iʼm Lina Lamont.
"I liked it!" For those of you who don't know what that means, I'm so sorry for you! This is my favorite movie, so go watch Singin' in the Rain (1952)! |
Emʼs answer:
Em: I donʼt like Thor. Or Cap. But, Capʼs growing on me. I like him better than before, but I do agree with Tony and think that heʼs self-righteous. Mine, properly phrased, is that I rank Cap and Thor at the bottom of the heroes chart.
MCʼs answer:
MC: I donʼt think that I have one either. Maybe the fact that I donʼt like Wanda and Vision as a couple? I know that Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015) is one of the least popular, but I really like it because of all the interactions between Hawkeye and the Maximoffs!
Whatʼs your favorite Stan Lee cameo scene?
Fionaʼs answer:
Fiona: “Whatʼs the matter with you kids? You never seen a spaceship before?” That one for sure!
Fiona: Oh, I have two, can I have two?
MC: Thatʼs fine.
Fiona: *Starts talking*
MC: Nope, you canʼt have that one. Thatʼs mine. It will be revealed in a minute.
Emʼs answer:
Em: I agree with Fi, those two are the best! I canʼt think of any others.
MC: There are a ton!
Em: I know, but those are the best.
MCʼs answer:
MC: The one in Winter Soldier! Where he is working at the museum and says “Oh man! Iʼm so fired!” when he sees the Captain America uniform is gone.
I had a blast filling this out with my sisters! A huge thank you to Em and Fiona for joining me. Thanks to Christine Smith for creating this! As I stole it without any official tagging, I canʼt tag anyone. But, feel free to do it if you want to!
My final thanks goes to all of you who read this! What do you think of our answers? Does anyone love Loki the way Em does, Hawkeye the way I do, or Spider-man the way Fiona does?
Iʼll leave you with a final quote: “Wakanda forever!”
MovieCritic
Oh my goodness, girls, this was SO fun to read! XD XD XD I wish I could get my sisters to come on my blog with me lol.
ReplyDeleteGotta say, I agree with Em 100% on Loki. (Not so much on Cap and Thor, I'm afraid. But all is forgiven.)
And Endgame is...yeah. Endgame is great.
Megan! We are all tremendously pleased that you enjoyed our humble thoughts. :D Maybe if you offer your sisters chocolate...? ;)
DeleteShe's caught so many references to him in CSO and is very content to have sound someone else who likes him so much. (Yeah, Fiona and I are working on changing her mind in that aspect.)
Yes! <3
Oh my gracious goodness! I was just grinning and laughing through this whooooole thing! This was the BEST. MC, I love that you pulled your sisters in. That was brilliant! And I LOVED seeing all your answers to things. I find it so funny how differing your thoughts were on so many things. XD
ReplyDeleteBUT ALSO. Loki, Hawkeye, and Spider-man are three of my favorite characters EVER EVER EVER. So I can give a resounding YES to your final question to all three! They are just the greatest. I was totally soaking up the Loki, Hawkeye, and Spider-man love in this whole post. (I especially think Hawkeye deserves more love so HUZZAH.)
And Endgame was AMAZING YES. My goodness, such a mindblowing movie. They really brought it all together in such a beautiful, epic way. I was pleased, to say the least!
Thank you girls so much for doing my tag! I was ECSTATIC to see you reviving it. This made my day! :D
Yay!!! We're so glad that you approve, Christine! I'm happy that the timing worked out so that we were all able to do it. Yeah, it is something that prompts a lot of discussion. XD Especially how Em's and my favorite and least favorite couples are swapped...
DeleteYes! *fist pump* Woohoo! Someone who agrees with all three of us! All three of us like Spider-Man and Hawkeye (cuz how could you not??), but Fiona is not a Loki fan. (Hawkeye deserves AAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLL the love!! <3)
Yeah, saying that I loved it is an understatement. :D It surpassed all my expectations in all the best way. I know that you wrote a whole post on it, so I'll go check that out sometime!
We had more fun than we can say, so thank you for creating it! You comment made my day!! :D
Oh, this is so awesome, and I almost died laughing several times. Endgame is really great. I need to watch it again.
ReplyDeleteI completely forgot about that cameo in The Winter Soldier! It's so great.
Really, all of those quotes you chose were amazing. Great post! This was so fun to read.
McKayla! You nearly dying of laughter is such a compliment! I LOVE making people laugh. My sisters know how to do it to me, too. Yes! Rewatching Endgame a few weeks ago was AMAZING and I highly recommend it.
DeleteA classic!
Thank you so much!!
Very fun. I've been wanting to do this tag, so maybe I'll steal it from you. ;)
ReplyDeleteRachel, you totally should! I would love to see your answers. :)
DeleteLoved reading your answers! Em's Loki love is as bad as mine. XD
ReplyDeleteI think she's rubbing off on me, considering how I put THREE gifs of him in this post. XD
DeleteThis was extremely fun, and you've succeeded in making me want to binge the whole series. Sigh. I need some kind of Dr. Strange time loop thing where I can just sit on my couch for 2 or 3 hours and watch a movie, over and over, (but a different one each time) so that I can watch all of them, but not spend more than 3 hours doing it.
ReplyDeleteI bet people would pay for that kind of time loop. Dr. Strange could get very rich.
Haha, sorry! The series is so good, but cumbersome considering the length. That is seriously a brilliant idea! (Em says: "Don't give Doctor Strange any ideas!") If that were a thing I would be one of the biggest users of that service (but I would be very responsible with the powers). He could afford so many new watches.
DeleteLoved this tag!! So cool that you got your sisters involved and can relate to the dialogue. ;) Endgame though! Probably would be in my top 5 Marvel movies along with Doctor Strange, Ant-Man, Captain America Civil War, and Spiderman Homecoming.
ReplyDeleteThanks! Ever since we did our huge rewatch of the series a day hasn't gone by that we haven't quoted one of the films. It might be over the top. XD Yeeeees! Those are some of my favorites, too! Homecoming and Civil War = <3
Delete
