Inklings // September 2026

Hello, friends and happy October!

I hope you all are having some golden days before the white days of snow come!

It seems lately that every other post I do is an Inklings post, and that's because I'm only really posting once a month. But that should all change soon as work slows down and I need another place to procrastinate writing and whatnot...I have lots of ideas up my sleeves, so stay tuned!

For now, Heidi's Inklings are a joy to do! The more the merrier, so if you would like to join yourself, here is how it works:

1. Any time during the month, on your own blog post a scene from a book or film that matches the prompt, including a link back to Heidi's blog in your post.

2. Make sure to come back and leave a link to your entry in the box on that month's post: Heidi's post for September 2026.

This month's prompt is:

A scene with a carriage in book or film

Heidi used a Jane Austen scene for this prompt and following her example I'm choosing a scene from Persuasion (2007). The pantheon of great Jane Austen period drama adaptations has many a good carriage scene.

I know, I know, I did a Jane Austen scene last time, but I have to choose this scene because the I've had the gif living on my computer since December when I did a post about the similarities between Persuasion and Rafael Sabatini's Scaramouche. Now I can share that gif with all of you!

Note: this scene is very short and without any spoilers, so proceed without fear. ^_^

It's been a couple of years since I watched this, but as far as I remember, here is some context: The characters have gone for a brisk and jaunty walk, immersed in their own dramas and not aware that our protagonist, Anne Eliot, is not feeling well. Captain Wentworth is the only one who notices that Anne is having a hard time at this pace, so when a carriage stops by and asks if anyone would like a ride, he takes matters into his own hands.

~~~
Ah, I love love love Jane Austen. What are some of your favorite adaptations? Have you ever ridden in a carriage yourself? Is there a character I should draw from this (it's currently Inktober, so I'm keeping my options open)?
Thanks to Heidi for the prompt and thanks to all of you for reading! Happy October!
My computer won't let me leave comments, so it might take a few days (or years...uh-oh!), but I will reply!
