I Love Austen Week~Sense and Sensibility vs. Frozen

Hello Everybody!
Today is the last day in Hamlette's I ❤ Austen Week!! It has been so much fun!! Really, go check out everyone Else's posts, they are lovely!
I am back to today for a really weird comparison, Jane Austen's Sense and Sensibility vs. Frozen. It was my sister who first pointed out how similar they are, and since then I have been on the look out for similarities, and there are quite a few! I wanted to share them all with you!

SPOILER ALERT!!!!!! If you have not seen the movie Frozen AND seen Sense and Sensibility 1995 or read Sense and Sensibility, DO, NOT, READ, THIS!!! This is a comparison post with every detail and Frozen and Sense and Sensibility have such cool (no pun intended) surprises that I do not want them to be spoiled for you if you read this.

Sense and Sensibility

vs.

Frozen (2013)

1. The basics.

The stories are mainly about two sisters. Both fathers die.

2. Elinor

vs.

Elsa

Well, the first obvious similarity about them is their names. Elinor, Elsa, they both start with El.
They also both try to hide their feelings (at least at the beginnings), they don't want ANYONE to see what they are feeling.

3. Marianne

vs.

Anna

Once again their names are the first thing you think about. They don't have a lot of sense. I mean, sure he saved you, but that doesn't mean you are instantly in love. See points 4 and 5 for their love interests.

4. Willoughby

vs.

Hans

Now, they both abandoned the second sister. They did it for different reasons, but they did it all the same!!! They both save the sisters to get their love.
They both have some good times together, but they still did it.
A)

B)

5. Colonel Brandon

vs.

Kristoff

Look at THEM! They are twins!!! They both love the second sister, and they both get her in the end. They both save her at one point.
A)

B)

Can you see why I'm doing this post yet?
(Also, really weird note that Kristoff is the only main character in Frozen who doesn't have a four letter name.)

6. Mrs. Jennings

vs.

The Trolls

They both try to get 3 and 5 together.

Well, there you have it. Did I miss any similarites?
I am going to put this header here to thank my little sister for making it!
Thank you so much for hosting this fun week Hamlette!!!!

    1. I know, my sister had to point it out to me, and she doesn't like Frozen so she claims that they stole it. :)

  2. Haha, that's hilarious, but you do have a point. ;)

There is indeed similarities in the personalities and inclinations of the sister; Eleanor and Elsa are both emotionally composed, and devoted to doing the right thing -- they have meltdowns once in awhile; whereas Marianne and Anna have to learn to stifle their intense feelings.

  3. Duuuuuuuuuuuuuude. I was thinking, "How similar are they, aside from there being sisters?" But by the time I got to Kristoff and Col. Brandon -- yeah, wow, they really are very similar. I wonder if they at all consciously made Kristoff look a bit like Alan Rickman as Brandon?

    Very, very cool post!

    1. When my sister told me that they were copying Sense and Sensibility, I said the exact same thing! But when she started to explain it to me, and I explored it more, I found out how much they are similar! I think some part of someone's brain must have thought of Alan Rickman because they are twins!!!

      Thank you!!

This was so much fun to read! Thanks for doing this. (And thanks to your sister for pointing out the similarities in the first place.) :D

P.S. Have you ever seen the 2008 version of S&S?
